Social sculpture Woensel Supertoll! in the heart of  the Woensel district

Social sculpture – What began in 2013 in part of the Van Abbemuseum called ‘Het Oog’ with text by Fresku kept flowing on with Tante Netty into more than 30 workshops. It swarmed and raged on gathering wooden boards written on by more than 600 (!) people in Eindhovens neighborhood Woensel. Now here it is: The WoenselSupertoll! A huge spinning top in the middle of Woensel. We say ‘Eindhoven the craziest’ and WoenselSupertoll!

In the middle of the Woensel district

The artwork has received a prominent place in the middle of the Woensel district. It stands at the renewed intersection at Winkelcentrum Woensel and is part of the new HVO2 bus station that is being used at the end of this year. View here the video of the opening of the sculpture.

Award winning public art project

Woensel Supertoll! Is a public art project of artist Tijs Rooijakkers and Social Design Collective Aunty Netty in collaboration with the Van Abbemuseum, Rapper Fresku and the Eindhoven Woensel district of Eindhoven. In 2017, the project won the Eindhoven Culture Award.

From the jury report:

“Artist Tijs Rooijakkers has been committed to getting more culture within the public space of the city. With his work SuperToll project! He knew many residents of Eindhoven to be enthusiastic about being part of the artwork itself. The project has achieved several people through the many phases and known a unique lead time, in which it continued to develop. For example, the project started in the Van Abbemuseum in which a large toll of shelves were described by rapper Fresku. The project then went into the neighborhoods together with organization Aunty Netty: first in Woensel-West, at various high schools and then on a large scale in Woensel-Noord. The final work is a gigantic ‘Supertol’ at the new HOV station in Woensel. The jury praises the project because of the fact that it brings a wide audience into art and culture and the power to connect people to each other. ”
